Proving a Marriage!

Convincing IRCC that you’re in a genuine marriage is not as simple as ome may think. Do you really have all the same opinions on all subjects as your partner. Which of the two of you have the best recolation of when things took place and where? Have both of you had a detailed discussion as how your relationship developed? Do women and men think differently? What if IRCC asks the applicant to attend an interview? Never trust a man to to answer a question the same way a women would answer the same question.

Within a few days after leaving my position with Immigration Canada a married lady retained my services who was arrested and detained. She had overstayed her visitor status but had been legally married for about two months. The couple in question had been involved in a meaningful relationship for a few years. At the ladies initial detention review that was held on a Thursday I was unable to get a release order because they had her booked for removal on Tuesday of the following week. I quickly submitted a spousal application and got her a spousal interview on the following Monday.

The lady was interviewed first in English and was very convincing that they were in a genuine marriage. The husband who was a permanent resident spoke virtually no English and was interviewed with the assistant of an interpreter in Polish. He was also convincing that they were in a genuine relationship.

The interviewing officer trying to be polite asked both the applicant/lady and the sponsor/husband the same questions on the same subjects.

Then came this question.

WHEN DID YOUR RELATIONSHIP BECOME ONE OF A MORE INTIMATE NATURE?

A. December 31st during a New Year Eve celebration.

Husband/Sponsor

A. July 1st the night I arrived from NYC after becoming a permanent resident.

This was a boyfriend/girlfriend from Poland who both wanted a better life in Canada. They both applied for a Canadian Visitor Visa and the girl got the CVV because she had a sister who was a permanent resident. The boyfriend was refused but got a visito visa to the USA because he had an Uncle in NYC. He applied based on his skilled trade from NYC and was approved to become a permanent resident. In those days there was no requirement to prove your language ability.

When he was approved he drove his car from NYC to Mississauaga and showed up at his girlfriends sister one bedroom apartment. The sister suggested that the boyfriend and girlfriend take the bedroom and she would sleep on the couch because she had to get up early to go to work.

In Poland at that time it was expected that couples would get married in Church first then have a civil wedding as per the USSR rules. Several months later he proposed marriage to her and she accepted. Her being a devout Catholic wanted a Church wedding so they approached a Priest to learn how to properly live as husband and wife.

When his best friend was moving to Vancouver they decided to get married at City Hall and not tell her mother. Three months later she got stopped by the police and they turned her over to Immigration.

HE ANSWERD TRUTHFULLY BECAUSE HE LOVES HER

For the very first timehe woke up with his future wife in his arms on the night he arrived in Canada and he called that INTIMATE!

SHE ANSWERED HOW SHE THOUGHT HE WOULD ANSWER!

On the night hey excvhanged Christmnas gifts he proposed by giving her a ring. That was the first time after sleeping in the same bed for six months that they made love.

I knew they had made a serious mistake so I requested the interpreter to translate the word INTIMATE differently. After three times having him give the same answer I said why not just asked him when they __________!

Then he gave the same date as her plus the exact time. We all laughed!
