Knowledge is power so start reading everything but beware of easy solutions. Start reading all the Canadian news channels to learn the occupations that in are highest demand and various processing times. There are ten provinces and three territories all with their own confusing nomination programs. Accept the fact that you will not be immigrating to Toronto, Montreal, or Vancouver to live next door to your relative or in their basement. Look at prevailing wages and cost of living in these major cities and the lifestyle you really want.
Main Issues
Each province and territory are responsible for regulating of occupations in their area. Most provinces still require anyone to apply for regulation from within their province or territory. Certain provinces have a reciprocal agreement to approve applicants from certain countries so google, google, google. Soon due to the occupational demand some will be accepting online applications to become regulated in certain occupations.
Long Haul Truck Drivers can make between $60,000.00 to $80,000.00 annually and this occupation is in the highest demand currently. I’m sure you have read about all the Christmas presents from Asia sitting in cargo ships at anchor off the west coast of North America. PROBLEM, provinces require everyone to take a course before being approved to drive a tractor trailer. Most courses are under a six-month length so obtaining a study permit to be able to obtain certification is not available. SOLUTIONS, if you have experience and can get a Canadian Visitor Visa come take the course and once regulated get to work! Possibly have your spouse apply for a study permit and once enrolled apply for an open TWP temporary work permit take the course and once regulated get to work! Without 2 years’ driving experience or winter driving experience truck drivers who get regulated will find it difficult to be employed.
Registered Nurses probably the second highest in demand occupation due to COVID! Wages $48,000.00 to $98,000.00 or higher if you select a northern Territory. Check out if their area has a reciprocal agreement where you are residing or a citizen. Before applying, all internationally educated nurses (IENs) must first apply through the National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS). NNAS is a national online application service developed by nursing regulatory bodies across Canada. Language requirements of course are quite high. SOLUTION, consider taking at least a one-year course to upgrade your nursing qualifications that would give you an open work permit upon graduation while you’re seeking certification.
ENGINEERS if you’re 50 years of age with twenty years of experience don’t even submit your Express Entry profile. I do understand you want to immigrate to give your kids a better opportunity. SOLUTION, consider a startup visa where you come to Canada to start your own company that could employ some Canadians. Funds required depends on the location you decide to set up your business. Setting up your business just outside of Vancouver, Toronto, or Montreal can save you hundreds of thousands of dollars. Going further north will save you even more.
Hopefully this is some interest.
