Sponsoring a Spouse, COVID-19

I want to sponsor my spouse but how long will it take with this COVID-19 pandemic? I think a spousal sponsorship application can’t be difficult, am I correct? What do the two of us have to prove? What evidence is required to prove twe are in a genuine relationship? Which documents are the most inportant? Should I pay someone for immigration advice? Who would be best to retain, a Lawyer or a Consultant?

ALL VALID QUESTIONS

  1. How long will it take is a great question that no one can give you a clear answer unless they are lieing because no one knows during this COVID-19 pandemic. Just go to the Immigration website cic.gc.ca and search processing times. It does not make a difference if your sponsoring a spouse from within Canada or from outside Canada. Up pops a response stating during COVID-19 IRCC “can’t process applications normally”, “can’t provide accurate processing times”!

  2. Your family found you a spouse who wanted to migrate to Canada so how will you prove that he/she didn’t enter into the marriage without the purpose of gaining status under the Immigration Act? He/She is (X) amount of years older or younger than you, what evidence is best to prove the relationship is a genuine relationship? The fact that the two of you have consumated your marriage is that proof enough to prove our relationship is genuine? (NO)!

  3. Answering the question on how your relationship developed is extemely important and can affect processing times by decreasing the chances of the applicant being called for an interview. What the two of you have in common, hobbies intersts and opinions are some keys to prove a genuine relationship. Few Visa Officers believe in Love at First Sight, a proposal in a couple of days or a wedding within a month or two. How many family and friends attended your wedding? Relationship photos that show the two of you out having fun together that highlights your bond together are very important. Photos with family and friends are important. Do not submit any photos of the two of you in any state of undress.

  4. Your spouse may be from another country, a different religion, different culture, and since they are important to you seek advice. You would pay some one to fix your plumbing, repair your roof or finish your basement so why would you not pay someone to increase your chances of getting your spouse approved sonner than later? You married your spouse, you already have thousands invested in them don’t you want to wake up in the morning hugging them instead of your pillow?

  5. There are good and bad Lawyers and Consultants. Not all are authorized to charge a fee for Canadian Immigration advice. Conduct your own due dilligence and seek out proof of their experience when it comes to spousal sponsorship applications. Check out their reviews online to see how many former clients are happy with their representation. Video testimonials are far more reliable then a written testimonial. Not all Lawyers are Immigration Lawyers. Large Law Firms sometimes employ brand new staff or new consultants to complete your application. The amount of years an Immigration Consultant has been in business should be considered before retaining.
