Smart or Stupid idea regarding marriage - COVID-19

When your only 26 miles (approximately 50 Kilometers) apart from youor soul mate and the Canada - USA border is closed , what should you do? Despite the short distance, the couple remain apart. Lauren Pickrell, 35 year-old Canadian, of Windsor, Ont.  is quoted saying, "If you really love someone, you do whatever it takes,".

Mark Maksymiuk and Lauren Pickrell came up with an idea to do a PROXY marriage over facebook so Mark would be allowed to enter Canada legally to be with Lauren. Together they came up with the idea of a Face Time wedding so Mark Maksymiuk would have had to drive 11 hours and five minutes from Detroit Michigan to Kansas City, Kansas for a PROXY marriage. Yet he paid for a flight to and from Kansas City, Kansas and Detroit Michigan to have a PROXY marriage.

How much time would Mark Maksymiuk have saved if he had just asked my advice?

  • Their PROXY marriage was held in a strip mall, Maksymiuk said. "It almost feels like you're walking into a doctor's office, but there's, like, ribbons and bows and stuff on the wall."

  • Lauren Pickrell appeared via FaceTime on an iPad. At the time, she was at her job as a kitchen supervisor at a restaurant just outside Windsor. Her boss and co-workers joined her for the ceremony while her family tuned in from Montreal.

HOW ROMANTIC??????

Five days after the PROXY marriage at the Detroit/Windsor border Mark Maksymiuk was denied entry to Canada by a Canada Border Service Agency Officer (CBSA) after just a few questions that probably went like this.

Q. I see from your marriage certificate you got married in Kansas City, Kansas five days ago. Can you tell me where is your wife?

A. She lives here in Windsor.

Q. Did she go with you to Kansas City, Kansas to be married there?

A. No we got married over Face Time.

CBSA Officer you do know Canada does not recognize PROXY marriages so today you’re going to be denied entry to Canada.

The CBC news article ends with the following statement from Lauren Picknell “Mark is my husband and no one can tell me different.”

  • Well Lauren CBSA and IRCC just told you acdcording to the Law in Canada you’re not legally married.

I can’t forget Lauren Picknells quote in the article stating "If you really love someone, you do whatever it takes,". They are both just minutes from the Detroit/Windsor border. How much would it of cost Mark Maksymiuk to purchase a Kayak and paddle across the Detroit River? How long would it have taken for him to paddle across the Detroit River?

Now I’m not recommending that Mark Maksymiuk enter Canada illegally or not at a (POE) Port of Entry but I could of told them regardless of being Out-of-Staus in Canada their marriage if conducted in Canada would have been deemed genuine.

WHAT EVER IT TAKES!
